Another Facebook Data Breach

According to a report from New Scientist, Facebook data for over 3 million users was exposed to the general public by researchers at the University of Cambridge. In this incident, researchers used an app called myPersonality to collect information from Facebook users which was then stored and shared on an online web portal. While this web portal was secured with a username and password, researchers mistakenly posted the login information where it could be easily found and shared with others, putting the data of millions of Facebook users at risk.

With all the confidential information that businesses have to store and keep track of, it’s extremely important to make sure there are safeguards and other security measures implemented to keep all that information secure.

Are You Ready for the EU’s GDPR?

You may or may not have heard that the European Union is revamping their online data security laws, but whether you have or not, the impact of these laws on businesses both in and outside the EU will be massive. These new rules go into effect May 25th, 2018 and regardless of the size of your business, even if you’re operating solo, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation will require you to be in compliance with their laws in order to work with companies in the union.

According to a survey from Sage, 91% of American businesses are unaware of the details of the GDPR, and 84% don’t understand how it will affect their particular company. Noncompliance can be fined extremely heavily so it’s important that you understand these laws and how they will affect your business.
